Cape Salmon, also known as Geelbek, is a prized catch for many seafood lovers, particularly along the South African coastline. Known for its firm, white flesh and delicate flavour, Geelbek is a versatile fish that can be prepared in a variety of ways, making it a favourite in both home kitchens and fine dining restaurants. Whether grilled, baked, or pan-fried, this fish offers a taste of the ocean that’s both satisfying and healthy.

Grilled Cape Salmon with Lemon Herb Butter

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cape Salmon (Geelbek) fillets
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Fish:
    Pat the Cape Salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Brush both sides with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Make the Lemon Herb Butter:
    In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, lemon juice, chopped parsley, and minced garlic.
  3. Grill the Fish:
    Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Place the fillets on the grill, skin-side down, and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  4. Serve:
    Transfer the grilled Cape Salmon AKA Geelbek to a serving plate and drizzle with the lemon herb butter. Serve with your choice of sides, such as roasted vegetables or a fresh salad.
